Nagapattinum

6.25 AM: We board the 56851 Nagore Trichy passenger (fare Rs. 5/head)  from the Nagore station to go to Nagapattinum.

It was a leisurely travel. The train was moving at a gentle pace and outside you could see the sea. Fantastic !!



6.45 AM: We reached the Nagapattinam Junction Station.

We had tea from a shop opposite to the station. Then walked towards the Neelayadakshi Amman Temple.

7.30 AM: From Neelayadakshi Amman Temple we walked towards the very famous Soundararajan Perumal Temple (Vishnu).

Very beautiful temple. Newly renovated. 

Our next destination was Sikkal Singaravelan Temple

8.30 AM: We came out of the Vishnu temple. Took right and reached the main road. There is a Tamilnadu Mercantile Bank ATM. That is the bus stop.

We waited for sometime. Due to office time, buses were crowded. We took a share auto (fare Rs. 10/head) to go to Sikkal. The auto stand is beside the temple.

8.45 AM: This is a very famous temple. Looks very old, but very beautiful.

With this, we ended our Nagapattinam trip. we came back to the junction station. The bus stand in Sikkal is beside the auto stand. Both the buses and the autos will go to the old bus stand. From there the junction station is at a walk-able distance. We came by bus (fare Rs. 7/head)

11.15 AM: We took the 76817, Nagappattinam-Velankanni DMU and reached Velankanni station.

Myladuthurai-Tharangampatti

11.15 PM: Karaikal Express (16175), boarding at Chennai Egmore.

5 AM: Reached Myladuthurai Railway Station. Took Bus No. 6 (fare Rs. 5/person) from railway station and reached the new bus stand.

6 AM: Visited the famous Mayuranathar Temple. Walk able distance

7 AM: Came back to the new bus stand. Took bus no. 339D (fare Rs. 15/head) towards Tharangampadi (341 series buses will also go to Tharangampadi).

8.30 AM: Reached Tharangampadi bus stop. The bus took around 45 minutes to reach this place. From the bus stop we walked to the famous Danish Fort

We spent nearly 2 hours at this place. It started with the The Town Gate.

Then we took the road heading towards the fort. On the way there are beautiful buildings, churches, and the famous Zeigenblag Staue

The beach near to the fort was awesome. 


 
 

Next we visited The Masaimalar Nathar Temple






Then we visited the fort. The fort opens at 10 AM. and remains open till 5 PM. The fort remains close on Friday. There is an entry fee of Rs. 5/ head and Rs. 30 for still camera.



Don't expect a fort as large as Mehrangarh or Nahargarh types. This is a small 2 storied building. First floor has the museum. Entry to the second floor is prohibited.






After watching the fort we came back to the Tharangampadi bus stand and took a bus to Karaikal. We board the train (56711 KIK TPJ Passenger, fare Rs. 5/headand reached Nagore around 12.30 PM.

12.15 PM: We took the 56711 Karaikal Trichy Passenger from the Karaikal station.

12.40 PM: We reached Nagore.


From station we walked towards the Dargah and took accommodation in the MB Residency (Non-AC: Rs. 400/day. AC: Rs. 900/day)

Afternoon we visited the beach.

The prime attraction is the renowned Nagore Dargah, a revered place of all faiths. A five centuries old Islamic shrine, Nagore Dargah attracts millions of pilgrims irrespective of caste, creed or religion. We visited the dargah in the evening after the sunset. With the lights on the dargah was looking very very beautiful.

9 PM: We roamed around the market place and came back to the lodge. Had nice dinner with sweets. Prepared for tomorrow mornings trip for Nagapattinum.

11. 30 AM: We walked towards the Velankanni Church. There are autos available just outside the station. We preferred walking.




12 noon: We took a room in the church premises. There are AC/ Non-AC rooms available. Opposite to the bus stop is the room booking counter. Room rent ranges from Rs. 250 to 1200/day. Rooms are neat and clean. We paid the room rent and a security deposit depending upon the room rent.

We went to the building mentioned in the bill and gave the bill to the caretaker there. He gave us the key.

3 PM: We went to the shrine basilica. It has several compartments, like main, upper, lower. It is a gigantic structure. Majestic building.




The road opposite to the main entrance of the shrine church goes to the famous building of Our Lady's Tank and Church

7 PM: We checked out from the room. On returning the key to the care taker he gave the slip. We showed the slip to the booking counter to get back the refund money.

7.30 PM: One should not miss the night view of the church. We came back to the church premises to take photos.




8.45 PM: We took the 16186, Velankanni Express from Velankanni Station and reached Tambaram in the next morning.
